Scientific ML under uncertainty.

Mohamed A M Elansary, PhD — candidate for Principal Applied Plasma Data Scientist. Hybrid physics plus data modeling, uncertainty quantification, and simulation/diagnostics comparison from hydroclimate scientific computing — with an honest plasma/fusion domain stretch and Everett, WA onsite relocation.

Scientific modeling

  • Designed multimodel, multi-basin forecast experiments across hydroclimates.
  • Coupled statistical and physically based models (MODFLOW, VIC, PIHM, NASA LIS) as a hybrid physics-and-data system.
  • Treated USGS, NOAA, and NASA observations as imperfect diagnostics before interpreting skill.

Computing and delivery

  • Ran reproducible Linux/HPC workflows (UCAR, TACC Stampede) with Python, R, MATLAB, and Bash.
  • Built post-processing, parsing, and visualization of model output versus measurements.
  • Ships production data pipelines with provenance, validation, and regression checks.

What I would demonstrate

Take a physics baseline and a set of incomplete diagnostics, reconstruct the state with quantified uncertainty, compare a surrogate or hybrid model against that baseline, and deliver a decision-ready memo that states where they agree, where they diverge, and what the data does not support.

Honest fit boundary

Plasma and fusion-specific domain work is a stretch. I have not published fusion, FRC, MHD, PINN, or differentiable-physics research, and I do not claim magnetic-diffusion, circuit-coupling, or plasma-dynamics modeling. I do not invent metrics, safety research, or RLHF. Everett, WA onsite is a relocation-with-package ask; I do not assert remote or hybrid work. My research record is environmental engineering and hydrologic forecasting; the transfer is scientific ML, UQ, simulation/observation comparison, and HPC.
